Cemetery of Splendour

RIGA IFF SELECTION

A group of soldiers in a small town on the Mekong River in northern Thailand are struck with a bizarre sleeping illness.
In 2010, the Thai film director and artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s (1970) film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes festival. Ironically, the director has failed to become recognized in his own country where quicker and funnier films are more in favour. Today Weerasethakul has become one of the most well-known Thai directors, but is still unknown in his homeland.
The film received Online Film Critics Society Awards (2015), International Cinephile Society Awards (2016) and Asia Pacific Screen Awards for best films (2015).
