Riga IFF Priekšvakars: GARAGES premiere

It went like this: once in Bolderaja I was filming people who still take care of their garden allotments; some would grow flowers; others even joined together several allotments to make something of a small farm. There were also abandoned and overgrown plots, burnt remains of sheds It was clear the urban allotment culture is dying out. In one of them I met Kostya, and he said I filmed in the wrong place. I must film the place where real life happens, in the garage co-op, in which he also had his own garage. Naturally, I wanted to see where real life happens, and so Kostya took me to the men who spend a lot of their time in garages. Was this the real life? I don’t know. But it was bizarre and romantic, playful and practical, sad and happy. And now a small part of this life is now mine.
